Don’t Forget Your Home Security System Before Visiting On Holiday Away From Home
Quick Payoff for my Home Security Cameras and Wireless Security Systems
Last month during our remodel the first hundred dollars I spent was on a pair of home security cameras. Our budget was the same as most young newlyweds – miniscule – and my new bride doubted my decision.
We had been in our new place for eight weeks when we got ready to do the very necessary renovations we had thought about when we bought our home. The house itself was well-built, and our property – three acres just a few minutes out of town – was exactly what we had been looking for. The house itself was out-of-date and very small – we knew this going in and we understood that it was going to be a big job.
To help the budget we planned to do much of the job ourselves. After a couple days we piled the garage with building materials, tile, counter tops, and all the power tools we had bought for our big venture. We had to buy a a new table saw, three hand saws, a couple drills, two ladders, and several different hand tools and gear. That one-car garage – with a door that did not close properly attached to a house with no security system – had about a thousand dollars worth of tools in it. Once we had unloaded everything I immediately started putting in my two wireless home security cameras. I chose wireless for many reasons, especially the ability to simply mount the camera without hardwiring it to a receiver. That way if I choose to reconfigure the wireless cameras I can do so quickly without all the tedious rewiring.
I put one camera on the porch of the house looking down toward the front drive. I installed camera two in the backyard aimed at the gate and door. Our system allows us to log on to the web and view our house sort of like wireless CCTV cameras, so we figured out that feature and called it a night.
The very next day my wife told her friends at work about installing our new wireless surveillance cameras. She opened up the computer to the scenes of our house and she happened to notice in the background that the garden shed was open. She called me asking if I had left it open. As soon as I said no she saw the garage door open and a man exiting carrying a bunch of my new stuff. The police were able to catch the guy just a few miles down the highway. He had spotted us unloading the building equipment and snuck in the next day to take our stuff. Less than 24 hours and those cameras more than paid for themselves.
