A List Of Vacation Pointers

The amount people travel has simply exploded in recent history. Today, people are more likely to travel than their parents or grandparents were. We travel immense distances without a second thought, except, perhaps to worry about potential jet lag. The world is shrinking and there’s almost no place we can’t go.

And, for us, that’s a good thing. We can now not only experience other cultures but understand them, too. We can experience how other people live and work. That being said, there are a few things you should be sure to acquaint yourself with before you travel.

1. Surprisingly, most travelers don’t research even basic details about the country they plan to visit. You should consider this an essential part of planning any trip in order to avoid disappointment or any unpleasant surprises.

2. Check on the weather that is anticipated for your destination. Doing so will help you decide what type of clothing to pack for your vacation. Although it should be pretty obvious, make sure you check weather conditions for the actual time of year that you’re visiting. For example, June to November is hurricane season in the Caribbean, so, even if you don’t encounter a hurricane, you can probably count on some impressive thunder storms along with pretty hot and humid weather.

3. Make certain that you medical and travel insurance covers you well enough for you entire stay and for your chosen destination. You DID get travel insurance – right?

4. It’s a fact of life – our world runs on paperwork. Make sure you’ve got everything you need in the way of documentation for your trip. Passports, visas, immunization records, etc. If not, you could be turned away at the airport and not allowed to board your plane, or refused entry to the country at your port of entry. Be sure of what you need and get it.

5. Check to see if you need to be immunized against any diseases that may be prevalent at your destination. Better safe than sorry.

6. If you’re going to be doing some driving during your trip, make sure that your drivers license will be accepted. You may need to get an international drivers license. It also makes sense to be familiar with the local rules of the road.

7. And here’s the most crucial thing – is your passport current? If you’ve answered “no”, do you have enough time to either get one or have an expired one renewed? Note: there are some countries that won’t let you in if your passport has less than a month to run. Check it right now so there’s no question!
